Horntet plays Tomasz Stańko “Music’81” feat. Sławek Pezda

Horntet is a jazz quintet, a democratic collective composed of five outstanding and one of the most promising Polish jazz musicians of the young generation. Nominated for the Fryderyk 2024 award, winners of almost all jazz competitions in Poland (m.in. Jazz on the Odra 2022, Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa 2022), 2nd place at the prestigious European Young Artists’ Jazz Award in Burghausen 2024, repeatedly appreciated by critics and music journalists in Poland and abroad. Starting from 2019 and the formation of the band on the initiative of pianist Bartłomiej Leśniak, the musicians have been constantly working on their own, common, recognizable style based on their own compositions, which are a mixture of mainstream, free music, but also contemporary classical music with a Slavic denominator, which is a continuation of the style referred to as Polish Jazz. In 2023, the band, confident in the direction they have taken, released their debut album entitled “Horntet” (Jazz Top 2023 – 4th place in the Album of the Year category according to Jazz Forum readers). In the autumn of 2025, the band’s second album entitled “Direct Message” will have its premiere.

During the concert, Horntet will present their own arrangements of Tomasz Stańko’s legendary album “Music 81” – a historic recording that was made in times of political tensions and personal dilemmas of the artist. Stańko’s compositions, combining elements of mainstream and free, fit perfectly into the aesthetics of Horntet. The band’s new take on – with the trumpet replaced by two saxophones – gives this unique music a fresh sound and new life.
