New Orleans Sunday
The festival inaugurates a grand outdoor event – New Orleans Sunday. It is a great celebration of traditional jazz, where a joyful and spontaneous audience gathers to play with lively sounds straight from New Orleans.
From noon, in the gardens of clubs and cafes on the Main Market Square, jazz can be heard by bands such as the Old Metropolitan Band, Boba Jazz Band or Hot Swing. At 5:00 p.m., the dancing New Orleans Parade starts from the Town Hall, which heads towards Szczepański Square. The parade will be attended by musicians, dancers and several thousand fans of traditional jazz. The event ends with a concert on the stage at Szczepański Square.
Selection of club concerts
This is where it all began… 28 years ago, Piwnica pod Baranami was filled with jazz for good in July. Several years later, Harris Piano Jazz Bar joined the regular program of the festival. Since then, the events held in these two adjacent venues have become the core of the festival.
From 2022, the festival clubs with regular concerts have also been joined by the Globus Music Club in Podgórze. This July, Globus invites you on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and selected Sundays.
Solo Piano Week
Solo Piano Week is the time to participate in solo piano concerts!
Created in 2012, the Solo Piano Weekend series has been expanded to the weekly Solo Piano Week series. The events take place at the Krakow Philharmonic in the Golden Hall. Vladislav “Adzik” Sendecki, Dominik Wania, Adam Makowicz, Bobo Stenson, Piotr Wyleżoł, and Alan Broadbent have already played m.in their recitals as part of the series.
Krakow Spiritual Music Days
At the beginning of the cycle, musical catharsis will guarantee us ecstatic sounds of Jan Garbarek’s saxophone.
The next day, Grażyna Auguścik and Jarek Bester will introduce us to the mood of reflection, who in the mystical interior of the Gothic church will present their own interpretations of folk melodies by Oskar Kolberg and Marian songs.
On September 1, in the 84. anniversary of the outbreak of World War II together with Markus Stockhausen, Olga Pasiecznik, Dominik Wania, Leszek Możdżer and the Krakow Philharmonic Choir will sound the project “The Bell for Peace”.
The last day of the cycle will be devoted to Jarek Śmietana, a great guitarist and unquestionable musical authority in the world of Polish jazz, who died 10 years ago. Radio Krakow will feature friends and long-time members of Jarek’s bands.
