Funk de Nite & Bryan Corbett (Poland/UK)

Bryan Corbett is a British trumpeter, multi-instrumentalist (he also plays saxophone, flute, double bass, piano and drums), composer, band leader, sound engineer.

As a teenager, he wanted to become an athlete, but later devoted himself entirely to music. While studying at Liverpool Hope University, he attended classes at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he received a classical musical education. During this time, he played in university big-bands, marching bands, and bands led by his father, jazz pianist Stuart Corbett. He led his own quintet, with which he performed in restaurants, and later a quartet, achieving considerable success with it. For three years, he gave concerts in clubs and festivals in Europe. He has collaborated with m.in Polish band Funk de Nite, Czech musicians, Mind The Band Step and jazz-rap band Us3. In 2007 he performed as a soloist with the BBC Orchestra. He is a sought-after session musician. He performs music with a wide stylistic spectrum. He is inspired by the achievements of Freddie Hubbard from the 70s, jazz, fusion, funk, as well as rap, hip-hop and nu-jazz. He has recorded, m.in, “Funk In Deep Freeze” (1999), “Pressure Valve” (2005), “Corbenova” (2003), “Back In Town” (2005), , “Green” (2013), “Winter Song” (2015), “Beautifully Disturbed” (2017). His latest project, “Instrumental Groove Unit” (2024), he performs with a new quartet.

Funk de Nite

The Krakow band was founded in 1993 by saxophonist Ryszard Krawczuk, a graduate of the Faculty of Jazz and Popular Music at the Academy of Music in Katowice (currently a professor at the Academy of Music in Krakow). Since its inception, the group has been very popular, invited to concerts and festivals in Poland and abroad. Funk de Nite performed, m.in, at the Liburnia Jazz Festival, Leverkusener Jazz Days, Jazz in the Old Town, Bielska Zadymka Jazzowa, Summer Jazz Festival Kraków and Jazz on the Odra. The band has collaborated with Polish musicians (Jarek Śmietana, Bernard Maseli, Paweł Mąciwoda, Piotr Żaczek) and foreign musicians: Christoph Titz, Bryan Corbett, Saskia Laroo, Warren Byrd, Steve Logan and rappers: MC Vlash, Firestorm and MC Stewlocks. Funk de Nite recorded, m.in, “What! So What!”, “J-5”, “Funky Roads”. The band performs music that is a synthesis of jazz, fusion, rock, funk and hip-hop.
