He studied at Berklee College of Music, and made his debut recording immediately with top-notch artists – Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker. Then he joined the jazz-rock band of Billy Cobham and George Duke, in the second half of the 70s he recorded with Mingus, and soon became a member of Gary Burton's quartet. As an independent musician and leader of his own formation, he became known in 1978, recording the album "East Meets West". A year later, he took part in the recording of Zbigniew Seifert's "Passion". His successes did not escape the attention of Miles Davis, who brought him to his formation. Cooperation with Davis (1982-85) radically changed Scofield's position in the jazz market, now he could perform and record with the best – Hancock, Tony Williams, Tom Harrell, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Shorter, Holland and Medeski's group, Martin & Woods. Today, his position is stable – next to John McLaughlin and Pat Metheny, he is the highest-ranked jazz and fusion guitarist. He has a reputation as a musical chameleon, he can fit into any style – from post-bop to fusion, funky and R&B. Scofield's latest project, "Yankee go Home", is like a return to the past, to the times of the artist's fascination with the music of B.B. King, songs of Neil Young, Dylan and the repertoire of the cult Grateful Dead. Some of these covers will certainly be performed in Krakow.
</oembed>
